Udhampur, July 31: Vice Chairperson District Development Council Udhampur Juhi Pathania emphasised on the need for the emancipation of women in all spheres.
Addressing a one-day sensitisation program attended by a number of women in village Sunal (Hatli) of Tehsil Majalta, she said a slew of programmes and path-breaking initiatives pivoting around women’s welfare has been spelled out by the government.
She called upon women to act as harbingers of such schemes and policies and to motivate all such eligible groups and sections to benefit, at the maximum, from such schemes. “Once these schemes are implemented on the ground, the entire realm of women’s welfare is about to change,” she said.
Pathania elaborated, “With the advent of a people-friendly government in 2014, a plethora of women-centric steps and initiatives have been filed out. Be it the reservation for women in Panchayats, District Development Councils, Block Development Councils, push for women entrepreneurs, women constituting the bedrock of Aatmannirbhar Bharat, social security schemes, so and so forth.”
“It becomes pretty clear that the idea and political will of the government is in ensuring that women progress in all spheres of activity that may be from political to defence. Women flying fighter jets, commercial planes, bordering the brave frontiers of the country have not only enhanced the aura of women folk but the idea of India itself,” she said and quoted the Hindu scriptures that “even gods remain unhappy where women are disrespected”.
Juhi said the perception and perspective of society have changed, and so is the case with that of establishment and powers-that-be too. “Various global surveys have highlighted that Herculean steps have been taken in our country for the upliftment and improvement of women in almost all spheres of life,” she said.
The VC DDC Udhampur also inaugurated the work of construction of R/wall, B/wall and Drain along the Mahalanga to Halti road. The work is being executed by the Department of PWD with an estimated cost of Rs 15 lakh. The execution of this work will protect the road from heavy rains and floods and reduce the inconvenience to the people, she said.
She also took stock of the public grievances projected by the PRIs and the general public and issued appropriate instructions to the concerned departments for redressal of the problems projected by the people.
