Ganderbal, June 06: SHO Gund has issued a warning to tourists Locals against taking photos on the banks of Nallah Sindh after a tourist was rescued from drowning in the Balti Kullan area of Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district. The incident underscores the dangers of the fast-flowing river, particularly as the temperature rises and water flow increases.
Kashmir Valley, renowned for its picturesque landscapes, is currently seeing a surge in visitors, including domestic, foreign, and local tourists. Many flock to the banks of Nallah Sindh to capture the beauty of the lush mountains and scenic river.
Despite the appeal, the river’s sharp flow poses significant risks. Last year, the Ganderbal administration placed warning posters along Nallah Sindh, cautioning tourists about the potential dangers of taking photos on the riverbanks. However, the warnings have often been overlooked, and hundreds of tourists continue to take selfies daily along the river, increasing the risk of accidents.
The recent incident occurred when a tourist from Haryana slipped while taking photos on the bank of Nallah Sindh and fell into the water. His companions, witnessing the accident, raised the alarm, prompting local residents to rush to the scene and notify the Gund police. SHO Gund Inspector Lateef Ali, along with the SDRF Gund component and CRPF 118 Bn, launched a rescue operation. After two hours of intensive efforts, the tourist was safely rescued.
In light of the incident, SHO Gund reiterated the warning and urged tourists to avoid taking selfies on the banks of Nallah Sindh to prevent such accidents in the future.
