Srinagar, May 31: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M) leader Mohamad Yusuf Tarigami on Friday demanded urgent action from the reconstituted Screening Committee by the Jammu and Kashmir government to immediately register provisionally registered Kashmiri Migrant families without any further delay.
These families, numbering around 1400, have endured severe hardships for nearly a year, with their relief and ration assistance being halted, he said in a statement issued here.
Tarigami said that a delegation representing these migrants recently met with officials to highlight the dire conditions they have faced during this period, expressing their inability to adequately provide for their families due to the suspension of relief payments.
“Even families affected by violence, included under provisionally registered migrants, have been denied relief and ration assistance, a situation that has been strongly criticised,” he said, adding, “These provisionally registered migrants have been awaiting regular registration for over two and a half decades.”
“The members of the Screening Committee must immediately do the needful so that these families are registered regularly and ensure that their pending relief and ration is released at the earliest to mitigate their sufferings,” the CPI(M) leader said.
