Kishtwar, May 31: Vice Chairman of Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) and former minister Ghulam Muhammad Saroori has expressed grief and sorrow over the drowning of two youths in two separate tragic incidents in Doda district of Kishtwar region.
In the first tragedy, the body of a missing youth from Doda was recovered following a 62-hour joint rescue operation by divers, JKSDRF and Ababeel volunteers. The deceased, identified as Faizan Ahmed, son of Ghulam Haider and a resident of Udhampur, was a helper working at the 850 MW Ratley Power Project Darabshala in Kishtwar. His vehicle overturned into the river, leading to the unfortunate accident. Despite the extensive efforts of rescue teams, his body was retrieved after a prolonged search operation.
Saroori expressed his deep condolences to the bereaved families and commended the tireless efforts of the rescue teams, local authorities, company management and Ababeel Volunteers involved in the recovery operation. He urged the district administration to establish a team of expert divers in the Chenab region to prevent such tragedies and enhance the effectiveness of future search and rescue missions.
In another heartbreaking incident, Muhammad Usman Wani (23), a resident of Tandla village, drowned while bathing in Jhajjar Kotli (Katra). Saroori expressed sadness over this loss and extended his sympathies to the grieving family. He urged people, particularly the youth, to exercise caution when swimming in rivers and streams during the summer season and avoid venturing into hazardous waters.
The DPAP leader also appealed to the LG administration to expedite the release of compensation for the deceased’s family, providing much-needed support during this difficult time.
