Srinagar, May 30: The Jammu and Kashmir police Wednesday set-up the GPS anklet on under trial terror associates who were enlarged on bail in the UA(P) case in Dooru area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, officials said.
A police spokesman said that in compliance to an order received from Court, Anantnag Police on Thursday affixed GPS tracking devices on under trial terror associates who were enlarged on bail in UA(P) case.
“The accused were arrested in case FIR No 34/2018 under section 38, 39 UA(P) Act of Police Station Dooru and have been enlarged bail by the Court. The GPS anklet will be used to monitor the movement of the said terror associates and ensure that they don’t violate the bail conditions”, he said.
Earlier on Wednesday, police in Baramulla affixed a GPS tracking device on an under trial terror associate who was enlarged on bail in a UA(P) case of Police Station Uri.
“The accused was arrested in case FIR No 104/2023 under section 13, 18, 18B, 20, 23, 40 UA(P) Act,120 B IPC, 7/25 Arms Act of Police Station Uri and has been enlarged bail by the Court,” he said.
“It was the first case that police used a GPS tracking device on an under-trial terror associate released on bail from Police Station Uri. We are assessing similar cases, and more trackers will be deployed accordingly,” he had said.
J&K police is the first in the country to introduce GPS tracking to keep a tab on the activities of the terror associate on bail.
