Srinagar, Nov 04: The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) and State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) Kashmir Division convened a crucial state-level consultation today to evaluate the implementation of Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) initiatives across Jammu and Kashmir. The consultation, part of a nationwide study on FLN programs, brought together key stakeholders to assess the progress of the NIPUN Bharat Mission in the region.
Led by Professor Padma Yadav from NCERT’s Department of Elementary Education (DEE), the consultation focused on documenting various state initiatives, including teacher training programs, learning material development, and community engagement strategies.
Prof. (Dr.) Parikshat Singh Manhas, Director SCERT-JK, shared his message at this occasion highlighting the region’s commitment to achieving universal foundational literacy by Grade 3.
The NCERT delegation was led by Prof. Padma Yadav, along with Dr. Dhanya Krishnan and Ms. Ruchi Rana from the Department of Elementary Education (DEE), NCERT, New Delhi.
Sheikh Gulzar Ahmad from SCERT J&K presented a comprehensive overview of the NIPUN Bharat initiatives, emphasizing the region’s focus on mother tongue-based education and innovative teaching tools like Jaadui Pitara. The consultation highlighted Kashmir’s unique approach to addressing geographical and linguistic challenges while maintaining curriculum standards.
The event is part of a larger study covering all states and Union Territories, with Kashmir Division selected for detailed analysis. The research team will conduct classroom observations and focus group discussions in six selected schools across the region on November 5, gathering data from approximately 600 stakeholders, including DIET principals, resource persons, school heads, and teachers.
