Kashmiri innovation researcher invited to ‘UNGA77 Science Summit’

Srinagar, Sep 25: A Kashmiri innovation researcher Dr Sheikh Fayaz Ahmad from Kupwara was invited to organize a session in the Science Summit of UNGA-77 (United Nations General Assembly UNGA77) on 23rd September, 2022.
The objective of the session was to discuss the Alternative Innovation and Development Models from various socio-political contexts by bringing together the leading experts from China, India, Pakistan, World Bank, UN and OECD.
‘COVID-19 has shed fresh light on innovation research, development and community initiatives. This talk panel of experts from China, India, Pakistan, World Bank, UN and OECD will help policy makers’ politicians ponder alternatives to exclusive growth and innovation strategies. Researchers, scientists and other stakeholders can draw upon this session to craft alternative innovations that are productive and equitable,’ Dr. Sheikh Fayaz Ahmad said while addressing the session.
Dr. Sheikh Fayaz is working as a full-time innovation researcher with the School of Management, Zhejiang University, one of the top Public universities in China. He works on ‘secondary innovations’ and regional development. Sheikh Fayaz holds his M.Phil. and PhD from the Centre for Studies in Science Policy, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi-India.
Prior to joining Zhejiang University, Dr. Fayaz was a Visiting Scholar at the Instituto Universitário de Lisboa (ISCTE-IUL), Portugal, under European Commission’s Crossing Boundaries Project funded by Marie Curie Actions, International Research Staff Exchange Scheme (2014), School of Management, University of Bradford, England (Oct- Nov 2014) and University of Sussex, London and Institute of Development Studies, Sussex, England, (2017). He is also a member of the Globelics community and is an alumnus of various Globelics innovation academies held in Finland, Kenya and Brazil.
The other speakers for the science summit included some of the world’s leading development practitioners, researchers and scientists from different parts of the world including Dr. Mario Cervantes: Senior Economist, Science and Technology Policy Division of OECD, Declan Kirrane: Founder and Managing director of ISC, Chairman and Managing Director of UNGA, Prof. Xiaobo Wu: School of Management, Zhejiang University China, Prof. Can Huang: School of Management, Zhejiang University, China, Prof. Liang Zheng: School of Public Policy and Management, Tsinghua University, China, Prof. Ke Rong: Institute of Economics, Tsinghua University, China, Prof. Ziliang Deng: Renmin School of Business, Renmin University, China, Prof. Saradindu Bhaduri: Centre for Studies in Science Policy, JNU,India, Prof. Amit Basole: Department of Economics, Azim Premji University, India, Prof. Soumdip Sarkar: Department of Management, University of Evora, Portugal, Prof. Yasir Bhatti, MBS School of Business and Oxford University.
