Never thought that the designing of structures would inspire him to be an artist. Salman Lone, after studying architecture for a year, switched his subject to become an artist. Currently he is pursuing his bachelors in fine arts from University of Kashmir. To him, the place serves him a comfortable place to express himself.
After passing 12th class with non-medical subjects, he qualified for the National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA). His drawing skills favored him in getting the admission. The drawing teacher of the course suggested that he go into the field of arts when she saw his knack of drawing.
“Architecture is all about designing structures. I was better at sketching people rather than buildings. My drawing teacher told me to explore my talent in the field of arts,” he said.
To his surprise, his family agreed and supported his decision of switching studies to art.
The 21 years old from Baramulla is into making quick sketches on whatever he finds around. Most of his paintings are on the book pages, the text below doesn’t bother him, as he said.
Most of the time, he likes to draw people so his art is focused on portraits. “I stress on live portraits. I like the details of the facial expressions it offers,” he said.
He has been doing digital art too which is less explored in Kashmir yet.
“Digital art is an artistic work that uses digital technology in its creation. The field is yet unknown to many people but is making headway in the contemporary art world,” he said.
In the future, he is planning to study for a master’s degree in arts abroad.
He said, “I want to study further abroad and pursue masters in the field of painting. The field has a lot of scope and opportunities to offer. It’s just a matter of learning and pursuing your passion.”
