Srinagar, June 01: The State Investigation Agency (SIA) on Thursday raided nine locations in South Kashmir in connection with investigations into the killing of bank guard Sanjay Sharma in February this year.
A police officer said State investigation agency (SIA), Kashmir carried out searches today at nine locations in three districts of South Kashmir which included Pulwama, Shopian, and Anantnag. Searches were conducted in connection with investigation into the killing of Sanjay Kumar Sharma, a Bank guard of Achan, Pulwama.
He said during the searches, some electronic gadgets including mobile phones, electronic storage devices, SIM cards, documents, bank documents etc relevant to the ongoing investigation have been seized during these searches and preliminary questioning provided very pertinent leads in the case.
The SIA said it is pertinent to mention here that the case was initially investigated by Pulwama Police and subsequently transferred to the SIA Kashmir. Investigation is progressing well and the agency is hopeful of taking it to its logical conclusion.
SIA further stated that these searches were carried out in pursuance of search warrants issued by the Special Court for UAPA offences (designated under the NIA Act) Pulwama, actively assisted by sister agencies, during the pre-dawn hours today.
Sanjay Sharma, who was a bank guard, was shot dead by terrorists barely 100 metres away from his home in Achan in Pulwama when he was on his way to a local market in February .
Two days later, two terrorists believed to be involved in Sharma’s killing were killed in an encounter with security forces. Police identified one of the terrorists as Aqib Mustaq Bhat, who was killed in the mosque premises.
The other, identified as Ajaz Ahmed Bhat, a resident of Trall near Pulwama had initially taken refuge in a house close to the mosque and was shot dead after security forces tracked and trapped him using technical surveillance.
