Srinagar, July 13: Deputy Inspector General (DIG), South Kashmir Operation Range, CRPF, Alok Avasthy today assured that there is no specific threat to the ongoing Amarnath Yatra pilgrimage, emphasizing that the security and well-being of the people remain their top priority. Avasthy made these remarks while addressing reporters in Pulwama district of south Kashmir.
Avasthy stated that there have been no intelligence inputs regarding any potential threat to the Amarnath Yatra and highlighted that ample security arrangements have been put in place to ensure a safe and secure pilgrimage. He further stressed that the CRPF maintains round-the-clock vigilance in the Valley throughout the year, regardless of the Yatra.
Although there has been an increase in the deployment of forces due to the pilgrimage, Avasthy mentioned that special attention is given to the Yatra. The CRPF is utilizing modern gadgets and weaponry to maintain surveillance in its area of operation in south Kashmir, but the specific details were not disclosed.
Avasthy also acknowledged the increased traffic during the Yatra and informed that CRPF personnel are engaged in traffic control to facilitate the smooth movement of the Yatra convoy. He expressed appreciation for the support and cooperation received from the local population, highlighting their assistance in providing water and blessings to the Yatris.
The DIG CRPF interacted with the troops deployed for Yatra duties, aiming to boost their morale. Additionally, he ensured the safe passage of the Amarnath Yatra convoy on the national highway. Earlier, Avasthy conducted a first-hand review of the arrangements on the ground and the safe passage of the Yatri convoy for SANJY-2023. His visit aimed to uplift the troops’ morale and ensure the successful completion of the mega Yatra in the region.
The 62-day annual pilgrimage to the 3,888-meter-high cave shrine commenced on July 1 from the twin tracks of Pahalgam in Anantnag district and Baltal in Ganderbal district. The Yatra is scheduled to conclude on August 31.
