Srinagar, Mar 19: Additional Director General of Police Kashmir Zone, Vijay Kumar on Sunday said that providing a security protocol to a Gujarat conman who posed himself as a PMO official, was a “mistake” and not intelligence failure. He said the case is being investigated.
Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a football match at TRC ground, he said security agencies don’t provide security cover to anyone on verbal communique or order.
ADGP Kumar said providing security protocol to conman was not an intelligence failure but yes a mistake for sure which is being investigated. Any officer who ordered to  provide security to the Conman will be dealt with and the matter is being investigated.
ADGP Kumar said following the inputs, a team led by a senior IPS officer raided a hotel and arrested the conman. “We recovered fake visiting cards from him and a proper FIR was lodged while the conman was interrogated”.
“At present, he is behind the bars under judicial remand, ” he said,  adding, “they are in touch with the Gujarat police,” ADGP Kumar said.
On annual Amarnath Yatra arrangements, he said fool-proof security will be provided during Amarnath yatra like last year. Drones, and mine-proof vehicles will be used.
“I am confident that by the time of the yatra, the number of terrorists here will be reduced. Right now, the number of local terrorists has come down to 28, will reduce this further,” ADGP Kumar said.
About the query on possible rise in the crime rate, the police chief said that there is no surge in the crime rate but there is an increase in reporting the crimes by the people who trust police for its thorough investigations.
“Crime cases are being investigated thoroughly and culprits are being arrested and punished as well,” he said.
On attaching the properties, he said that property used for terrorist activity or used by terrorists for shelter will be attached be that a vehicle, building or a house.
Meanwhile, it is worth mentioning here that Kiran Patel, who was arrested on March 2 by Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Police for impersonating a top ranking official of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has apparently cheated many people in Gujarat promising government contracts or clearances.
His arrest was kept under cover by the police. Its details emerged only after a magistrate sent him to judicial custody last week.
Patel came under suspicion after he arrived in Srinagar on a second visit within two weeks. The intelligence agencies alerted the police about the conman and the police were asked to arrest him from a hotel in Srinagar.
According to the police, they seized 10 fake visiting cards and two mobiles from him. They also confirmed that there are three cases registered against Patel in different police stations in Gujarat.
