Baramulla, May 26: Multiple houses were severely damaged in a devastating fire incident that took place in Kalantra Payeen, of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

The incident, which occurred in the early hours on Friday, resulted in extensive destruction to two houses, leaving the affected families grappling with the aftermath of the tragic event.

The swift intervention of the Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) department prevented the fire from spreading further.

Mohammad Akbar, an F&ES department official, said the fire originated from a residential house in Kalantara Kreeri.

“The fire quickly engulfed a neighbouring house, but the timely response from the F&ES department contained the flames, averting a more catastrophic incident,” he said.

The official further said that the blaze affected certain portions of both residential properties involved.

“Fortunately, there were no reported injuries to any individuals during the incident,” he added.

Mohammad Akbar told Rising Kashmir that the fire service personnel promptly arrived at the scene at 5:13 a.m. after receiving reports of the fire at 5:10 a.m.

“After a rigorous firefighting operation that lasted approximately three and a half hours, the fire was successfully brought under control,” he added.

Officials said that preliminary investigations suggest that an electrical short circuit was the likely cause of the fire.

The F&ES department has urged residents to prioritize electrical safety measures to mitigate the risk of such incidents.
