Pahalgam, July 05: The Municipal Committee (MC) Pahalgam conducted a thorough market inspection on Wednesday and fined the erring traders for overpricing at the famous tourist destination Pahalgam in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
According to Suhail Malik, Executive Officer, MC Pahalgam, the drive was launched on the orders of District Magistrate, Anantnag, to perform market checking in the region in light of the ongoing Amarnath Yatra and massive visitor influx.
“During the drive, many shopkeepers were penalised, and a sum of Rs 17,300 was collected from the erring shopkeepers who engaged in overpricing,” he said.
He said that in addition to the fine, one restaurant was locked on the site and around six kilograms of single-use plastic was confiscated and destroyed on the spot.
“We make certain that tourists and Yatries get products from the Pahalgam market at reasonable prices and of high quality. We also ensure that there is no inconvenience to the tourists here,” Malik said.
The market inspection campaign will continue, and retailers are reminded not to overcharge and to avoid using single plastic, he added.
