Srinagar, April 06: The Directorate of Horticulture Kashmir has clarified over a report regarding spread of codling moth pest which is actually leaf roller/black-headed fireworm.
In a statement issue, it said that neither the Director Horticulture Kashmir nor any other Officer of the Department has referred to any such kind of pest as mentioned in the report.
However, reports of infestation of some pest was received and accordingly the Director Horticulture, Kashmir along with a team of experts was on a visit to Kreeri area of Baramulla on 1st April, 2023, wherein a pest, which has been identified as leaf roller also called black-headed fire-worm was found.
This pest was reported in a few orchards of District Baramulla and Bandipora and has been brought under control through prompt and timely advice of the experts of the Department to the farming community.
“So it is clarified that the pest be referred to as leaf roller/black-headed fireworm instead of codling moth. The pest is not of serve nature and has already been brought under control, and farmers of the valley need not to worry,” reads the statement.
