Srinagar, Jan 25: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Thursday termed the “uncouth” remarks used against the party president Dr Farooq Abdullah by a Bharatiya Janata Party leader as a “mountain of lies” and a “bundle of deception”.
Reacting strongly to BJP General Secretary Tarun Chugh’s “false attribution” to Dr Farooq, the party’s State Spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar in a statement said, “Such remarks are born out of frustration. BJP which is running out of gas is now attacking the tallest leader of J&K and one of the senior-most opposition leaders of the country to remain relevant. Having no bone to pitch with the National Conference, Chug is going ballistic and lying through his teeth. It seems Chug has nothing else to do except manufacture lies. His remarks are far from reality and are his mental innovation.”
Imran said the livelihood of many people in Jammu and Kashmir depended on opposition to the National Conference and Tarun Chugh is no different.
The spokesperson said that Dr Abdullah’s statement on the arrest of Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah was distorted. “These people are upset only because Dr Farooq in his speech appreciated the efforts of late Nehru for the development of the country,” he said.
“Had NC been after power then Sheikh Sahib wouldn’t have spent most of his life in jails and confinement. Had we been after power then we would not have been opposing the BJP unlike its local minions and B, and C teams,” Dar said, adding, “NC has never sought power, history is replete with instances, where we have rejected power, giving supremacy to people’s dignity and aspirations. Politics is a medium for us to safeguard our people’s rights, honour, dignity and unique individuality.”
