Pulwama celebrates Women’s Day: Speakers highlight women role in nation building

Pulwama, March 08: In connection with International Women’s Day, the Department of Social Welfare Pulwama with the Collaboration of District Administration, Department of Social welfare celebrated International Women’s day at Circuit House Pulwama.
 
The function was presided over by the Senior Superintendent of Police, PD Nitya as Chief Guest and Assistant Commissioner Revenue Mr. Shahbaz Ahmad as a Guest of honor.
Prof Dr. Yasmeen Farooq Principal Government Degree College for Women Pulwama, Principal GDC Rajpora Prof Gazala Gayaz, Principal GDC   Awantipora Prf Zahida Parveen, Principal GDC Pampore Professor Dr. Huda, Supervisors from Mission Poshan Pulwama, Frontline workers from Department Of Health, Female Achievers in different fields, officials of District Hub for Empowerment of Women, Sakhi One Stop Centre, CHL, Superintendent Parisha & Palaash were present on the occasion.
 
Speaking on the occasion, SSP Pulwama PD Nitya and Assistant Commissioner Revenue highlighted the role of women in nation building. They also threw light on the rights of women and discussed various centrally sponsored women centric welfare schemes that are aimed at providing hand-holding to the women to make them self-reliant and urged the female folk to avail benefit of these schemes. They also highlighted various steps taken by the district administration towards women empowerment.
 
DSWO Pulwama Mr. Azhar Amin (JKAS) highlighted the role of DHEW in creating awareness about these schemes at grassroots level so that more females are empowered by these schemes. He asserted that the economically independent women is the first major step towards empowerment of women and urged the females to avail benefit of schemes aimed for establishing their own income generating unit.
 
During the function, various speakers while highlighting the significant role played by women in social, economic, political, educational and judicial fronts said that mass awareness about the rights of women and to acknowledge their achievements is the need of the hour.
 
Meanwhile, a felicitation ceremony was organized to felicitate and honour the female officers who have shown exemplary services in different fields. A good number of Women achievers were given Mementos & certificates of appreciation on this occasion
