Bandipora, Dec 20: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Jammu and Kashmir Branch Office organized a sensitization program for Sarpanches and Panchayat secretaries from four blocks of the Bandipora district. The event, held on December 20, 2023, took place at the Conference Hall of Mini Secretariat Bandipora.
The program, conducted by Standard Promotion Officer (SPO) Ashish Kumar Dwivedi from BIS-JKBO, featured the presence of BIS Resource Person Uzair Qadri. Attended by Sarpanches, Panchayat Secretaries, and several local residents, the initiative aimed to educate and inform the local representatives about the significance of adhering to Bureau of Indian Standards.
Ashish Dwivedi provided an overview of BIS operations and highlighted the purpose of the sensitization program. He stressed the importance of choosing ISI-marked products for the welfare of the community, explaining that BIS licenses factories producing both mandatory and non-mandatory ISI-marked products. Opting for ISI-marked products contributes to the overall growth of the country.
The SPO also discussed the hallmarking of gold, demonstrating how to differentiate between hallmarked and non-hallmarked gold. Additionally, he introduced the ‘BIS Care App’ and encouraged attendees to download it from the Google Play Store.
BIS Resource Person Uzair underscored the need to extend awareness about standardization to the grassroots level. He urged Panchayat Secretaries and Block Development Officers to prioritize ISI-marked products in tenders issued by the rural development department.
Several Sarpanches expressed their appreciation for the BIS team’s initiative in conducting such sensitization campaigns for Gram Panchayat representatives. They hoped for continued collaboration between PRIs and BIS, acknowledging the unique and valuable information shared during the program.
Sarpanch Ghulam Hasan Khan of Dardpura Panchayat stated that the information provided was unique and essential for daily life and PRI-initiated projects. He expressed the hope that similar programs would be conducted at the grassroots level, benefiting the community.
