SKUAST-K kick-starts management trainings on indigenous rice, beekeeping

Srinagar, Dec 14: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K) on Thursday inaugurated two Existing-Management Development Programs (E-MDPs) on ‘Production, Branding & Marketing of High-value Indigenous Rices of Kashmir Himalayas’ and ‘Commercial Beekeeping – A Gifted Livelihood Source for Rural Youth and Farmwomen’ at Mountain Crop Research Station (MCRS), Sagam. 
The trainings are organised by the SKUAST-K’s Mountain Research Centre for Field Crops (MRCFC), Khudwani under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Govt of India.  
SDM, Kokernag, Suhail Ahmad Lone, who was the chief guest, highlighted the potential of these trainings in enriching agricultural practices and significant contribution to the livelihood security of rural youth. 
During the event, Prof Najeeb-ul-Rehman Sofi, the Associate Director of Research – MRCFC-Khudwani, underscored the dual impact of these training programs, emphasizing their role in improving agricultural productivity, profitability and promoting entrepreneurship. He noted that the focus on branding and marketing indigenous rice varieties and commercial beekeeping aligns with the vision for sustainable livelihoods in the Kashmir Himalayas. 
Prof Farooq A Sheikh, in his deliberations, emphasized the pivotal role of such training programs in securing livelihoods and creating jobs, stressing their potential to foster sustainable practices for the community’s economic well-being.
The Sub-Divisional Agricultural Officer acknowledged the enthusiastic participation of Agriculture Department officers, signifying a joint commitment to sustainable agriculture and the economic well-being of rural youth. He emphasized that these programs play a crucial role in cultivating a new generation of agri-entrepreneurs, ensuring long-term livelihood security. 
Earlier, Dr Bashir A Rather Course Coordinator provided an overview of the training programs, emphasizing their importance in advancing the marketing of indigenous high-value kinds of rice and commercial beekeeping for the betterment of rural livelihoods. The session concluded with expressions of gratitude extended to the chair, participants, and other dignitaries.
