Jammu, Dec 14: The two hundred-bedded high-tech Bone and Joint Hospital in Jammu, which was operationalised in October this year after a wait of four years, needs four hundred employees under different categories to get fully functional. The Government Medical College-Jammu (GMC-Jammu) has sent this requisition of the required staff to the concerned authorities.
“We have sent our requisition to the government for filling around 400 required posts in different categories in the Bone and Joint Hospital to make it fully functional and provide all health facilities to the people,” Principal, Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H), Jammu, Dr Ashutosh Gupta informed Rising Kashmir.
Officials said that due to the acute shortage of staff, the Operation Theatres (OTs) in the hospital have not been made functional fully.
“There are 6 OTs in the high-tech Bone & Joint Hospital in Jammu. Once they become fully functional, they will cater to a lot of patient load of the Jammu region which at present is entirely on the GMC-Jammu,” they said, adding, “Various surgeries which were supposed to be carried out in the high-tech Bone and Joint Hospital are also not being carried out due to the shortage of staff, especially due to the shortage of technicians required for operating the high-tech equipment.”
The Bone & Joint Hospital was made operational in October initially with OPD services and later on, IPD services were also started in the hospital. However, due to a shortage of staff, the people are not being provided the health services as expected from this hospital.
The entire Orthopaedic Department from the GMC-Jammu has been shifted to the Bone & Joint Hospital, which is adjacent to GMC-Jammu.
The patients with ortho-related problems will be provided high-tech treatment at the Bone & Joint Hospital, which until now was not available in the GMC-Jammu and patients had to go to nearby Punjab, Haryana and Delhi.
Hip replacement, joint replacement, knee surgery and replacement, ankle surgery, multiple fracture surgery and required interventions in case of an accident and surgery related to sports will all be performed in this high-tech hospital once it becomes fully functional.
