Jammu, 26 June: The NSS Unit and Nasha Mukt Committee of Government Degree College (GDC) Kunjwani observed the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking with a series of impactful activities aimed at raising awareness about the perils of substance abuse and promoting a healthy, addiction-free lifestyle.

The event was held under the leadership of Prof. Baljinder Kour, Principal of the college, who commended the efforts of the organising team and emphasised the pivotal role of awareness and education in preventing drug misuse among the youth. The day commenced with an essay writing competition on the theme “Drug Abuse and Its Effects on Families and Society”. Students from various academic streams participated with enthusiasm, presenting thought-provoking perspectives and advocating for a united stand against the drug menace. This was followed by an awareness lecture delivered by Master Harnam Singh, a retired headmaster and senior citizen from Mansarovar Colony. In his engaging address, he shed light on the psychological, physical, and social repercussions of drug addiction. The session concluded with an interactive discussion, where students raised pertinent questions regarding prevention strategies and rehabilitation measures. In a powerful display of solidarity, an awareness rally was also organised in collaboration with the Narcotics Control Bureau – Jammu Zonal Unit. Students, faculty members, and NCB officials actively participated, carrying placards and chanting slogans that encouraged the community to steer clear of drugs. The rally conveyed a strong message about the youth’s commitment to a drug-free society.
