Rajouri, May 12: National Conference (NC) Member of Parliament (MP) from the Anantnag-Rajouri segment, Mian Altaf Ahmed, visited several border-affected areas in Rajouri district on Monday during his second day touring the Poonch and Rajouri border zones. His visit aimed to assess the impact of recent cross-border shelling incidents.
In a statement issued here, Mian Altaf expressed concern over the tragic toll of recent hostilities, which have claimed innocent lives, injured many, and displaced numerous families. During his visit, he met with residents whose homes were damaged and personally reviewed the situation on the ground.
The NC leader visited the Government Medical College Rajouri to check on the condition of those injured and urged hospital authorities to ensure the best possible medical care for the victims. He also visited the relief camp at Nowshehra to meet affected families and listen to their concerns.
Mian Altaf reiterated his demand that families who lost loved ones be provided government jobs under SRO, along with adequate compensation and rehabilitation support.
He said, “On the second day of my visit, I met shelling-affected families in Rajouri. I visited the relief camp at Nowshehra and inquired about the injured at GMC Rajouri. Immediate relief and rehabilitation for affected families should be the government’s top priorities. The ceasefire has brought some relief to the people here.”
Residents also raised demands for constructing bunkers in these vulnerable areas for safety, the statement said. Mian Altaf assured them that he would raise this issue with the government and personally advocate for safety measures in the region.
