India has been consistently raising the issue of equitable world order free from conflict for a long time now. Regular interventions at the United Nations (UN) from time to time consistently are testimony to the fact that India has put forth the concern of the developing nations before the international community. The motivation to raise this issue lies in minimising the international conflict to bring the stability for peaceful world order. This issue has been forcefully underlined by the External Affairs Minister Dr.S Jaishankar at the Raisina Dialogue 2025 in New Delhi. In his address he stressed the need for a stable world order by saying that smaller nations like Pakistan can pose significant risks by exploiting the disorder. He made a scathing attack on Pakistan and some Western countries. He put the record straight and said that the United Nations(UN) made the invasion of Pakistan on Jammu and Kashmir into a dispute. Substantiating his statement he said, “We all speak of sovereignty and territorial integrity. It’s a vital principle and a bedrock of global rules. After World War II, the longest-standing illegal presence and occupation of a territory by another country pertains to India in Kashmir.”He did not stop here but tore the false propaganda being peddled on Jammu and Kashmir by clearing the Indian position and principled stand.Dismantling the structure of untruths,he said, “We went to the UN (United Nations). What was an invasion was made into a dispute. The attacker and the victim were put on par. Who were the culpable parties? UK, Canada, Belgium, Australia, USA? So pardon me, I have some question marks on that whole topic.”His scathing attack was a comprehensive one.It was meant to send a clear message to put the Indian policy premise in the contemporary perspective. Moreover ,it was guided by the right to democracy and freedom for all the sovereign nations.Upholding the sovereign rights and territorial integrity of all the nations , he said, “We speak today of political interference. When the West goes out into other countries, it’s in pursuance of democratic freedoms. When other countries come into the West, it seems to have a very malign intention. If we need to have an order, there must be fairness… We need a strong UN but a strong UN requires a fair UN.” He argued for a new world order that is not one sided but inclusive and said, ““A strong global order must have some basic consistency of standards. We have military coups to our east in Myanmar, they are a no, no. We have them even more regularly to the West where they seem to be okay. It’s important to audit the workings of the world for the last eight decades and be honest about it and to understand today that the balances and the shareholdings in the world have changed. We need a different conversation. We need a different order.” His reference to Pakistan was pointed and must been in terms of its role to use terrorism as a state policy that is posing a serious challenge to the territorial integrity and sovereignty of India. He underlined that even a small country can pose a big risk to other nations. He advocated a just international order and said, “A strong global order must have some basic consistency of standards. We need a different order.” Dr.Jaishankar has minced no words and called a spade a spade by giving a food for thought to the world leaders present at the conclave. India is facing a serious threat from Pakistan to its territorial integrity through cross border terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. The international community must recognise that terrorism has no borders and it can devastate human lives across continents. Dr.Jaishankar has indeed spoken for the equitable and stable world order. Now the responsible world powers must follow the suit.
