Pulwama, Mar 13: Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Rajpora Assembly Constituency, Ghulam Mohi-ud-din Mir on Thursday said that Sangerwani and its upper reaches in Pulwama district will be developed as a tourist destination within the next five years.
Speaking to Rising Kashmir outside the Legislative Assembly in Jammu, Mir expressed his commitment to bringing the scenic area onto the tourism map. “I am striving to bring Sangerwani and its upper reaches, including Namblan, Shidak and Khairot on the tourism map and develop necessary facilities for tourists,” he said.
The region would be developed on par with renowned tourist destinations like Pahalgam, Gulmarg and Sonmarg, Mir vowed.
The MLA highlighted the untapped potential of the area, known for its lush green meadows, dense forests and breathtaking views. “Improved infrastructure, including better roads and other facilities, would make Sangerwani a prime attraction for visitors,” he said.
Apart from tourism, Mir also addressed the pressing healthcare needs in Rajpora. He pointed out that the Community Health Centre (CHC) Rajpora receives a footfall of patients comparable to that of District Hospital Pulwama.
A new building needs to be constructed for Outpatient Department (OPD) at CHC Rajpora, he said. “I have already discussed the matter with the Health Minister and the concerned secretary. An amount of Rs 1.37 crore has been earmarked for the construction of two incomplete buildings at CHC Rajpora. Once completed, work will begin on the new OPD building,” the MLA said.
