Srinagar, Jan 15: The recent heavy snowfall across Kashmir has recharged the water reservoirs in Srinagar, bringing much-needed relief to the people and Jal Shakti department alike.
With the winter chill intensifying, local authorities have assured residents of city that the water supply will remain uninterrupted for the months ahead. It may be recalled that the prolonged dry-spell last year had resulted in lowest ever discharge in the water reservoirs across Srinagar leading to the drinking water scarcity in many areas.
Chief Engineer Kashmir Jal Shakti (PHE) department, Braham Jyoti Sharma, told Rising Kashmir that the recent snow spells brought the positive impact on the water resources in Srinagar and elsewhere. “All our reservoirs in Srinagar are sufficiently charged up following the recent snowfall. We are confident that the current water levels will meet the needs of Srinagar’s residents throughout this winter,” Sharma said.
He said that if Kashmir experiences additional snow and rainfall in the coming weeks, it will further enhance the water reserves and make their job easier during the summer months. “More snow and rains will be welcome as the same will help us serve people of Srinagar and other parts better in summer moths when temperatures rise,” Sharma said.
Officials from the Jal Shakti department also confirmed that the city’s water supply system is functioning optimally, with reservoirs at full capacity. The development has been welcomed by locals who were concerned about potential water shortages during the cold season. The increased snowmelt in the coming months is expected to boost the water supply and mitigate any future challenges. With the reservoirs sufficiently charged, the city is well-prepared for the immediate future, and Srinagar’s residents can expect a steady water supply throughout the winter and into the spring, easing any concerns about water scarcity as temperatures rise.
