V Narayanan was appointed as the new chief of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), on Wednesday, taking on a role he described as a great responsibility entrusted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Reflecting on ISRO’s remarkable legacy since 1969, Narayanan honoured the leaders who shaped its journey, including Vikram Sarabhai and K. Sivan.

He shared his vision for the future, emphasizing key projects like the SpaDex experiment, the G1 rocket, and the PSLV mission. Drawing from his 41 years of experience, Narayanan expressed confidence in ISRO’s ability to achieve even greater milestones, contributing to India’s growth as a developed nation.

Speaking to ANI, the new chief of ISRO, V Narayanan said,” This is a great responsibility bestowed by PM Narendra Modi.

ISRO has contributed significantly in every field of the country since 1969 and has been led by great leaders such as Vikram Sarabhai, U.R. Rao, K Kasturingan, K Radhakrishnan, A.S. Kiran Kumar, K. Sivan, S. Somnath.

I am sure with the kind of employees, technocrats and management staff available in ISRO, we will be able to contribute significantly to making this a developed nation as demanded by the Prime Minister before we celebrate 100 years of independence.”

“Tomorrow we are going to have SpaDex, which is an important experiment for future missions like Chandrayan 4 and space station building, then we are building the G1 rocket, the first unmanned rocket. We are going to have an important experiment called PSLV… Would put in my 41 years of experience to take this organisation to much greater heights.”

V Narayanan will assume office on January 14. He will succeed the current ISRO chairman, S Somanath.

According to an official order from the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, Narayanan has been appointed to serve in these roles for the next two years, until further notice.

V Narayanan is a distinguished scientist with nearly four decades of experience in rocket and spacecraft propulsion.

He is a Rocket and Space Craft Propulsion Expert and joined ISRO in 1984 and functioned in various capacities before becoming Director of LPSC.

During the initial phase, he worked in the Solid Propulsion area of Sounding Rockets and Augmented Satellite Launch Vehicle (ASLV) and Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) at Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC). (ANI)
