Ganderbal, Dec 25: Block Kangan in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district has made a significant progress under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) as 1400 houses have been completed in the financial year 2021-2022.
Figures available with the Rising Kashmir suggest that of the total 1,762 PMAY cases sanctioned for the block, 1,724 cases received financial support and 1,400 houses were successfully completed.
An official from Block Kangan said: “We are working continuously to ensure that the benefits of this centrally sponsored scheme reach the poorest sections of society. The aim is to enable them to construct durable and secure houses, ensuring a better quality of life.”
The PMAY scheme, a flagship initiative by the central government, aims to provide affordable housing for all by offering financial assistance in three instalments. These instalments are disbursed progressively, from the foundation stage to the completion of the house. Officials and teams from the block conducted inspections at various stages to ensure transparency and quality construction.
Under PMAY-Gramin (PMAY-G), annual targets are set based on the availability of eligible beneficiaries and discussions with States/UTs during the Annual Action Plan. States and UTs then allocate these targets to districts, blocks, and villages based on a finalized Permanent Wait List (PWL) or Awaas+ list. Beneficiaries of the scheme in Block Kangan expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the government, acknowledging how the initiative had transformed their lives. “This scheme has provided us with a secure shelter and a better living environment,” shared a beneficiary.
