Srinagar, Nov 24: The much-anticipated J&K Union Territory Thang-Ta Championship commenced on Sunday at the Multipurpose Indoor Hall, Polo Ground, Srinagar.
Organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Thang-Ta Association in collaboration with the J&K Sports Council, the championship has brought together talented players from across the region, showcasing the immense potential and passion for the traditional martial art of Thang-Ta.
The championship aims to identify and nurture promising talent in the sub-junior, junior and senior categories. Selected players will earn the honor of representing Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory at the 30th National Thang-Ta Championship, scheduled to be held in Uttarakhand from January 4 to January 6, 2024.
The event has garnered enthusiastic participation from athletes across various districts, reflecting the growing popularity of Thang-Ta in Jammu and Kashmir. Speaking at the inauguration, officials from the J&K Sports Council expressed their commitment to supporting traditional sports and providing platforms for young athletes to excel at the national level. The championship promises three days of intense competition, skillful displays, and a celebration of cultural heritage.
