Srinagar, Nov 14: A candlelight march was held in Srinagar on Thursday to protest against the recent terror attack at Srinagar’s Sunday Market, in which a woman from Bandipora was killed and 11 others were injured.
People in large numbers assembled at Ghanta Ghar, Lal Chowk to condemn and denounce the civilian killings. The peaceful march, which took place in the evening, aimed to condemn the horrific violence and to stand united against such acts.
Participants carried candles as a symbol of peace and remembrance for the deceased, while also calling for justice and an end to violence besides expressing deep sorrow over the incident.
The march was led by Wajahat Farooq Bhat, chairman ‘Save Youth Save Foundation’ (NGO), along with Mudasir Dar, Zonal President Save Youth Save Foundation, south Kashmir.
Talking to the media, Bhat expressed his deep sorrow and condemned the tragic incident.
“Today, we stand here united with voices echoing our collective outrage against this brutal act. Abida’s life was snatched away from us, leaving behind a void that can never be filled. We condemn this act of violence in the strongest possible terms and demand swift action from the authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice,” Bhat said.
“The perpetrators of violence do not represent Islam or its teachings but rather distort them for their own extremist purposes,” he added.
Another local, Mudasir Dar said that it’s time for us to come together, regardless of our differences, and work towards eradicating the roots of violence.
“We must build a community that upholds peace, justice, and unity,” he said.
The march witnessed the participation of people from different walks of life.
Pertinent to mention here, earlier on November 3, terrorists lobbed a grenade near the Tourist Reception Centre (TRC) at busy Srinagar market, injuring at least 12 civilians. The attack has evoked massive condemnation.
