Srinagar, Nov 05: District Election Officer (Deputy Commissioner), Srinagar, Dr Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat chaired an ‘Account Reconciliation’ meeting on Tuesday for all the contesting candidates of the recently held Assembly elections in eight constituencies of District Srinagar. The meeting was held in the presence of two Expenditure Observers from the Election Commission of India (ECI).
The meeting was attended by the Returning Officers, as well as the candidates and their authorised election agents from all Assembly segments in the district.
At the outset, Dr Bilal stressed the importance of ensuring the timely submission of “duly completed Election Expenditure Registers” by all participating candidates and their election agents, in accordance with the guidelines issued by the ECI. “Each expenditure register must be accompanied by the required supporting documents, including vouchers, bank statements and affidavits, as stipulated under ECI’s expenditure monitoring rules,” he said.
The DEP informed the attendees that filing the election expenditure details with the ECI is critical to maintaining transparency and accountability in the electoral process, which upholds the integrity of the democratic process.
During the meeting, several candidates expressed their appreciation for the efforts made by the District Election Machinery in ensuring that the Assembly elections in Srinagar were conducted in a free, fair, transparent and peaceful manner. They acknowledged the support provided by the Returning Officers and the District Election Officer’s team, who facilitated the entire electoral process and helped them navigate through the election-related procedures.
The meeting was also attended by the Deputy District Election Officer, Srinagar, the District Nodal Officer for Expenditure and Monitoring (Saddar Treasury Officer), and all Assistant Expenditure Observers for the eight Assembly constituencies in the district.
