Jammu, Oct 29: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah on Tuesday said the party is committed to bridging the gaps between regions and fortifying the bonds of unity.
He made these comments while meeting scores of public and individual delegations on the second day at his residence in Jammu. Representatives from the Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Katra Development Association and party delegations including YNC and Minority Cell met Dr Farooq and discussed issues concerning them, the party said in a statement issued here.
Provincial President Rattan Lal Gupta and other party leaders were also present on the occasion.
During discussions, Dr Farooq listened to the concerns raised by the delegations. He assured them that their issues would be raised on government forums and subsequently addressed.

NC leadership greets people on Urs Sheikh Ul Alam (RA)
Jammu and Kashmir National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah have greeted people on the annual Urs observance of the Patron Saint of Kashmir Hazrat Sheikh Ul Aalam, Alamdar-e-Kashmir, Sheikh Nur Ud Din Nurani (Nund Reshi) (RA), hoping the auspicious occasion increases the prospects of peace and prosperity in Jammu and Kashmir.
In his greetings message, Dr Farooq said, “Unique in style, thought and narrative, his verses based on universal brotherhood, love and compassion have shaped the cultural milieu of Kashmir. He had made peacemaking and reformism his lifelong mission which had a harmonizing influence on our society. A living symbol of Kashmir and the guiding light of its people, Nund Reshi (RA) continues to exert enormous influence on the socio, cultural and religious beliefs of the people of Kashmir.”
He added, “Alamdar-e-Kashmir’s thoughts have moulded the minds of generations for more than six centuries, establishing a culture of utmost religious toleration, brotherhood, compassion with an abiding faith in the omnipresence of God and profound love for the Holy Messenger of Islam (SAW). The Urs we are observing today has long been resuscitating our unique cultural and political identity, it will continue to do so in the times to come. I pay my humble tributes to Hazrat Sheikh Ul Alam (RA), hoping and praying that the day acts as a harbinger of peace and prosperity in J&K.”
In his message, CM Omar said, “Nund Reshi’s teachings exhort people to cultivate self-discipline and piety. His articulacy has undoubtedly enriched our language with wise and succinct sayings that have become proverbial. His teaching reflecting syncretism, brotherhood, compassion, and unity of mankind led him to be equally revered across religions. To date, his shrine in Charar-e-Sharief is thronged with devotees from diverse backgrounds. I pay my earnest tributes to him on the auspicious annual Urs observance.”
The party’s General Secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar, Addl General Secretary Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamal and other leaders, district, zone and provincial office bearers also extended warm greetings to people on the auspicious Urs observance.
Meanwhile, the party’s State Spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar and MLA Devsar Peerzada Faroz have impressed upon the administration to ensure all basic and effective amenities at Asatan Aaliya Qaimoh in Kulgam in view of the Urs Observance.
