Kulgam, Oct 13: In a heart-wrenching incident, two minors were killed after being hit by a dumper vehicle in Damhal-Hanjipora (D H Pora) area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Sunday morning.
The accident has left the entire region in shock, with residents mourning the loss of the two young lives.
According to locals, the victims—cousins—were walking along the road near Laisoo crossing in D H Pora when a speeding dumper struck them, resulting in their immediate deaths.
The deceased were identified as Muntiha Aijaz, a 12-year-old girl from D H Pora, and Aman Aijaz, a 3-year-old boy from Yaroo village of Kulgam.
Witnesses said the children were rushed to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) D H Pora, but doctors there confirmed that they had been brought dead.
“We urge the authorities to enforce stricter measures to ensure drivers adhere to speed limits and that unlicensed drivers are not allowed on the roads,” said Bashir Ahmad, a local resident. He added that such actions could help prevent further accidents.
Police have arrested the driver involved in the incident, seized the vehicle, and registered a case under FIR No. 117. Further investigations are underway.
The accident, which took place at the Laisoo-D H Pora crossing, has left the community grieving for the young lives lost in the tragic mishap.
