Srinagar, Oct 10: Government Medical College Srinagar under Family Adoption Program mandated by national medical commission conducted a day long plantation drive at Government Degree College Pampore which was inaugurated by Prof.
Iffat Hassan, Principal & Dean Government Medical College Srinagar in presence of Dr. Safiya Khalil Principal GDC Pampore, Prof. S. Muhammad Salim Khan HOD Community Medicine GMC Srinagar, Mr. Iqbal Ahmad Lone, DFO Social Forestry Pulwama, Adv. Nadeem Qadri, Environmental Lawyer & Executive Director, Kashmir Health Project – Youth Parliament of J&K, faculty & resident doctors of GMC Srinagar and faculty of Government Degree College Pampore.
180 MBBS students of 2021 batch from Phase-3 Part-1 participated in the plantation drive where around 200 saplings of conifers, pine etc were planted with administrative and logistic support from Deputy Commissioner Pulwama Dr. Basharat Qayoom, Social Forestry Pulwama, Forest department, GDC Pampore Administration and Kashmir Health Project and Youth Parliament.
Dr. Iffat Hassan, chief guest on the occasion, while appreciating the efforts of department of community medicine, GMC Srinagar is conducting various activities under the family adoption program in the adopted villages of Pulwama district with support from district administration, BMO Pampore and KHP, she extolled the medical students to be aware of their social responsibilities and sensitivities towards environment under ambit of One Health. Community and household health profiling, awareness activities, multi-speciality medical camps, plantation drives and other activities are carried out under the Family Adoption Program within selected villages as governed by the National Medical Commission.
