84 PC of J&K’s Newly Elected MLA’s are Crorepatis: ADR

84% of the winning candidates in the Jammu & Kashmir Assembly Elections 2024 are crorepatis, reveals a report by the Association of Democratic Reforms (ADR).

Out of the 90 candidates who emerged victorious, 76 have declared assets exceeding ?1 crore, an increase from the 2014 assembly elections, where 75% of winning candidates were classified as crorepatis.

Among the wealthiest candidates is Tariq Hameed Karra from the Indian National Congress (INC), who tops the list with declared total assets of Rs 148.44 crore. His asset portfolio includes ?44.17 lakh in movable assets and Rs 148 crore in immovable properties.

Following him is Devender Singh Rana from the BJP, whose total assets amount to ?126.81 crore, with ?28.12 crore in movable assets and ?98.69 crore in real estate holdings.

Mushtaq Guroo, representing the Jammu & Kashmir National Conference (JKNC), has declared total assets of ?

94.22 crore, consisting of ?6.34 crore in movable assets and ?87.87 crore in immovable assets.

Kuldeep Raj Dubey from the BJP, with declared assets of ?59.02 crore, which includes ?9.39 crore in movable assets and ?49.62 crore in real estate.

Baldev Raj Sharma, also from the BJP, has assets worth ?27.46 crore, while Randhir Singh, a BJP candidate from Rajouri, has declared assets of ?26.62 crore.

The party-wise breakdown reveals that 88% of winning candidates from the JKNC are crorepatis, with 37 out of 42 candidates meeting this threshold.

The BJP follows closely, with 25 out of 29 candidates (86%) being crorepatis. The Congress and CPI(M) boast a 100% rate of crorepatis among their elected representatives.(KNS)
