Kupwara, Oct 5:Two terrorists were killed in Kupwara district as the security forces foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control, officials stated on Saturday.
Officials said that war-like stores was found near the encounter site, and the search was still underway.
“Two terrorists have been eliminated by the security forces in the ongoing operation,” along the Line of Control (LOC), the army’s Srinagar-based Chinar Corps said.
According to officials, multiple intelligence inputs had been received in recent weeks regarding infiltration attempts planned through the Keran Sector.
On October 3, specific intelligence was obtained from several agencies, corroborated by the Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Intelligence Bureau, about HizbulMujahideen terrorists attempting to infiltrate through the Keran Sector, using the dense forest cover for concealment.
Consequently, a joint operation was launched by the Army, BSF, and JKP on the night of October 3-4, covering suspected infiltration routes with continuous surveillance.
On October 4, around 8:00 pm, security forces detected suspicious movement from across the Line of Control. When the infiltrators approached closer, vigilant troops challenged them, leading to an exchange of fire as the terrorists opened indiscriminate gunfire. In the ensuing firefight, two terrorists were neutralized, and a large cache of arms and warlike stores was recovered.
The recovered items indicated that the terrorists were heavily armed, well-trained, and equipped for their mission.
The Army lauded the success of this intelligence-driven operation, calling it a proof to the synergy between intelligence agencies, the Indian Army, and the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
The “Chinar Warriors” remain resolute in thwarting the nefarious designs of hostile elements attempting to disrupt peace and harmony in Kashmir, the Army stated in a statement.
In the ensuing year, several terrorists have been neutralized in Kupwara. In September three unidentified infiltrators were killed.
