Ganderbal, Sept 23: Mian Altaf Ahmad, National Conference senior leader and Member Parliament (MP) Anantnag Rajouri, on Monday launched a campaign for his son, Mian Mehr Ali, ahead of the second phase of assembly elections in Jammu & Kashmir. The campaign kicked off from Waliwar and concluded at Gagangir Gund in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.
Addressing a large crowd in Gund, Mian Altaf highlighted the developmental works carried out during his tenure as MLA and minister, which he said have garnered the support and satisfaction of the people. “This is why they are participating in today’s roadshow rally,” he said.
Commenting on the delimitation process, he criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for connecting Anantnag with Rajouri Poonch and Pulwama with Srinagar and blamed the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for bringing the BJP into Kashmir. “There is reservation not just in this area, but throughout Jammu & Kashmir, influenced by the BJP,” he remarked.
When asked about the NC’s statement on the reinstatement of Article 370, despite Prime Minister Modi’s assertion in Jammu that it will not be restored, Mian Altaf responded, “Even if the Prime Minister keeps saying this, the NC has not abandoned its commitment. We will continue to voice our demands. If it took them 70 years to revoke Article 370, we can also take several years to restore it. The people’s desire here is clear; they want it back.”
“The National Conference is representing the people’s voice and will persist in its efforts to restore Article 370,” he added.
Before his address, the National Conference organised a roadshow rally from Waliwar to Gagangir Gund in support of the Kangan constituency candidate, Mian Mehr Ali, who is contesting the assembly elections on the NC ticket.
