Jammu, Sept 18: National Conference (NC) Provincial President, Rattan Lal Gupta criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for its policies, claiming they have caused hardship for the middle class, weaker sections, women and youth during the party’s decade-long rule in Jammu & Kashmir.
Addressing a gathering of NC and Congress workers at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan in support of Taranjit Singh Tony, the Alliance candidate for the Bahu Constituency in the assembly elections, Gupta said. “Despite being one of the largest tax-paying segments in the country, the middle class continues to suffer under the BJP’s hollow and anti-people policies. The government has imposed rising taxes and inflation without offering any relief.”.
He urged party members to rally behind the alliance candidate, saying, “This election is crucial for the future of Jammu and Kashmir. We must ensure the victory of the NC-Congress Alliance to protect the interests of our people.”
Taranjit Singh Tony received a warm welcome upon arriving at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan, where senior leaders and workers expressed their confidence in his candidacy, the party said in a statement.
In his address, Tony said a united front is necessary to defeat the BJP. “Only the NC-Congress alliance can save the people of J&K from the oppressive policies of the BJP,” he asserted.
He added, “People are suffering. There has been a lack of basic civic amenities and infrastructure development over the past decade. People are demanding essentials like regular drinking water, electricity, government rations and relief from high inflation and unemployment.”
Tony encouraged NC and Congress workers to maintain strong connections with the community and raise awareness about the BJP’s “misrule”. “This is a fight for the future of J&K and the coming generations. We must work tirelessly to ensure a better tomorrow for our people,” he said.
Prominent attendees included Sheikh Bashir Ahmad, Provincial Secretary Jammu; Vijay Lochan, Chairman of the SC Cell; Rakesh Singh Raka, Vice President Central Zone; and several other leaders and party workers.
