Jammu, Dec 06: J&K National Conference and J&K Apni Party on Wednesday paid tributes to the architect of the Constitution of India and Bharat Ratna, Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar, on his 67th death anniversary.
The NC’s Chairman SC Cell Vijay Lochan organised a programme in which Rattan Lal Gupta, Provincial President Jammu was the chief guest. The provincial president along with senior party leaders garlanded the portrait of Bharat Ratna Baba Saheb.
Speaking on the occasion, Rattan Lal described the architect of the Constitution of India as a great visionary, saying the legendary leader worked tirelessly to foster an egalitarian society and shed caste discrimination across the country. He said that the people will always remember Baba Saheb for giving the country the best constitution in the world.
On the occasion, the senior NC leader asked the government to restore the democratic rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Sheikh Bashir Ahmed, Provincial Secretary JKNC appealed to the party cadre to make people aware of the achievements of the National Conference and work for strengthening the base of the party.
Abdul Gani Malik, former minister and Zone President Udhampur Reasi, in his address, said that Dr Ambedkar has constituted a constitution of the country with an aim to provide equal rights to the people of the country.
Throwing light on various facets of the life and struggle of Dr Ambedkar, Vijay Lochan said, “His (Dr Ambedkar’s) unflinching commitment towards social justice brought about a revolutionary transformation in Indian social order and helped in carving a society based on equality, justice and opportunities for all.”
Babu Jagjeevan Lal former minister and District President Reasi described Dr. Ambedkar as the Messiah of millions who shaped the destiny of millions of people across the country.
Apni Party Provincial President, Jammu and former minister, S. Manjit Singh, accompanied by prominent people and leaders of the party offered tributes to Dr B R Ambedkar on his death anniversary. In his address, Singh remembered the remarkable contribution of the architect of the Indian Constitution, and his work for the upliftment of the neglected class of society.
He remembered Dr Ambedkar’s fight for equality and constitutional guarantee to the marginalized section of society for their social, educational, economic and political upliftment, saying his struggle has provided an opportunity to the underprivileged people to get equal rights in society.
“However, the Schedule Caste and Scheduled Tribe people are still getting discriminated against one way or the other,” he said citing underdevelopment in their localities and exploitation of Dalits. “Baba Sahab’s teachings were against any kind of discrimination, but the government must take strict action by adopting legal proceedings against the authorities failing to develop the colonies like other colonies in Jammu and Kashmir.”
