Pulwama: The job fair organised by the District Employment and Counselling Centre (DE&CC) here at Government Degree College in Southern Pulwama district witnessed a huge response from unemployed youth.
As per an official estimate more than 1200 youth turned up in the event for a face to face interaction with employers from 17 different companies and organisations.
Authorities revealed that out of 1250 interviewee’s around 700 were shortlisted for the next round.
Talking to Media, Deputy Director Employment and Counselling Centre Pulwama, said that the aim of such job fairs is to get job seekers and job providers on a common platform.
“This ensures that job seekers get multiple opportunities in terms of available vacancies or other avenues of employment at one place,” she said, adding that besides 17 private companies and organisations they invited various government departments having self-employment oriented schemes to offer to unemployed youth.
She added that they register students for interaction with the recruiting companies.
“Some suitable candidates get on the spot placement,” she said, adding that others who drop their resume get second round interview calls and have chances of getting placements there.
The employment officer advised youth to come forward to take advantage of the platform they are provide to them and cash the opportunity.
“We are providing them a platform and an opportunity to get hired,” she said, adding that by sitting idle at home means they miss the opportunity.
Shahid Ahmad, a job seeker who participated in the job fair, commended district administration and employment department for organising this event.
“ The venue was at a walking distance for the majority of candidates and  there were many companies offering multiple posts so competition was comparatively less,” he said, adding that he applied for two vacancies in two different organisations.
He urged authorities to hold such job fairs in future too for the benefit of unemployed youth.
