Srinagar, Dec 3: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai, informed the Lok Sabha on Tuesday that five Indian soldiers were killed in terrorist attacks along the Line of Control (LoC) between India and Pakistan during 2021-2022. However, he confirmed that no casualties were reported in 2023.
The Minister reiterated the government’s firm stance on terrorism, stating that it has adopted a zero-tolerance policy and remains committed to dismantling the terror ecosystem. He emphasized that comprehensive measures have been implemented to curb terrorist activities along the border, resulting in a reduction in casualties.
Rai also highlighted the close coordination between intelligence and security agencies at both the central and state levels. The Multi Agency Centre (MAC) operates 24/7 to facilitate real-time intelligence sharing on terrorism-related matters, he said.
To enhance counter-terrorism efforts, specialized forces have been raised by states and union territories, with support from Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and the National Security Guard (NSG), to effectively handle terror-related incidents. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is responsible for investigating terrorism-related cases, while central agencies have conducted capacity-building programs for state forces to improve their ability to handle intelligence and terror cases.
The Minister further assured that border guarding forces maintain round-the-clock vigilance through regular patrolling, anti-tunnelling operations, and observation posts along the LoC. Vulnerable border outposts have been fortified with additional personnel and surveillance equipment, ensuring heightened security along the border.
To prevent infiltration, the Minister said that the government has erected and maintained border fences and installed floodlights along the International Border. Advanced technological solutions, such as the Comprehensive Integrated Border Management System (CIBMS), have also been implemented in vulnerable areas, he said.
The Minister said that strict advisories have been issued to border guarding forces to enhance vigilance and surveillance to thwart infiltration attempts.
He said that the government’s proactive measures have significantly curtailed terrorist activities along the LoC. Govt is committed to protect India’s borders and ensure the safety of its citizens, he added.
