JAMMU, Dec 03: The Jammu Assembly complex is undergoing meticulous preparations to ensure foolproof security for ministers, newly elected MLAs, and the public attending the first budget session of Jammu and Kashmir’s Union Territory (UT). Security forces have taken control of surrounding areas, including Shalamar, Kacchi Chowni, Panjtirthi, Parade, Indira Chowk, Mahesh Pura, Exchange Road, and other adjoining locations.
To strengthen security, additional nakas have been established at all entry and exit points leading to the Civil Secretariat. Each vehicle is being thoroughly checked before being allowed to proceed.
In a bid to maintain vigilance, security personnel in civilian attire have been deployed across the city to monitor suspicious activities. A senior officer stated, “Within days, more security personnel will be deployed to ensure foolproof security in Jammu City and surrounding areas near the Civil Secretariat.”
Authorities are also implementing measures to prevent disruptions, including ensuring that no vehicles are parked along roads close to the Civil Secretariat. Furthermore, roads from Ranbireshwar Temple and Zana Park, adjacent to the Assembly complex, have been closed to public and vehicular movement.
The first budget session of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly is set to begin in February next year. This session will be historic, with 90 MLAs in attendance, an increase from the previous 87. The rise in the number of MLAs follows the recent delimitation, with Jammu region now having 43 representatives and Kashmir region 47.
In preparation for the session, the Assembly complex is being given a fresh coat of paint to ensure a new look for this landmark occasion.
