Srinagar, Aug 29: Three foreign terrorists were killed in two anti-terror joint operations of security forces along the Line of Control (LoC) in Karnah and Machil sectors of fron-tier district of Kupwara in north Kashmir, officials on Thursday said.
A police spokesman said that in two successful joint operations J&K Police and Army neutralised three terrorists in the border district of Kupwara.
“These successful operations are a result of perfect synergy between the police and ar-my. As close vigil is being maintained and more thrust has been on developing human intelligence regarding infiltration attempts from LOC at Kupwara,” he said.
The spokesman said that specific inputs were developed on 27th August about simul-taneous infiltration attempts from Karnah Sector and Kumkadi in Machil Sector. They were shared with concerned army units and joint ambushes of JKP and Army were de-ployed, he said.
“While at Kumkadi, suspicious movement was detected around 7:30 PM on Wednes-day shortly after which firing commenced which carried on till early morning on Thursday.
Army spokesman said that Op Shamshu, Machhal in Kupwara, two terrorists have been eliminated in the ongoing anti-infiltration operation in general area Machhal, Kupwara, alongwith the recovery of Two AK Rifles, one pistol, four hand Grenades and other war-like stores. Search operation is in progress, he said.
Similarly at another place suspicious movement was detected in Karnah Sector around 9 pm on 28th August shortly after which firing commenced there as well which contin-ued into early hours of 29th August.
“Upon search conducted on Thursday morning at both locations – 2 dead bodies were sighted at Kumkadi while 1 dead body was sighted at Karnah encounter site,” he said.
The spokesman said that further search operations are ongoing, legal formalities are underway. It is also pertinent to mention that this is the 6th operation in District Kup-wara this year which has now resulted in the total count of terrorists killed to 10 – all foreign terrorists.
On August 24, an unidentified terrorist was killed, soldier were injured in a brief gun-fight with security forces in the Watergam area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla.
