Srinagar, Aug 29: The security forces exchanged fire with terrorists in the Lathi area un-der the Budhal police station’s jurisdiction in the border Rajouri district of Jammu divi-sion in the early hours of Thursday.
Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Jammu Zone, Anand Jain said security forces launched a search operation in village Kheri Mohra Lathi and Danthal areas around 9.30 pm on Wednesday following information about some suspicious move-ment.
“During search operation at about 9: 45 pm, a contact was established with terrorists and an exchange of fire took place between terrorists and security forces near the Kheri Mohra area. Further details are awaited,” he said.
Another official said that contact with terrorists was established around midnight when they opened fire on the search parties, resulting in the exchange of fire between the two sides. The firing stopped after some time, adding that the security forces had cordoned off the area,” he added.
PRO Defence Jammu Division, Lt Col Suneel Bartwal told Rising Kashmir that a mas-sive search operation is underway in the dense forests of Rajouri and technical equip-ment has been deployed to trace terrorists and monitor the search operation.
“Although there is no contact since early Thursday morning with hiding terrorists, area domination exercises are underway in Lathi and Danthal belt. Area is being closely monitored,” he said.
Lt. Col Bartwal said despite inclement weather, the search operations are underway in many places in the area and routine area domination exercises are going on in the Poonch-Rajouri sector as well.
He said the entire forest range is under a tight security cordon to neutralize the hiding terrorists. The area is mountainous and the forest is dense, making the operation both difficult and dangerous,” he said.
