Security tightened in Budgam & adjoining areas
Srinagar, Nov 01: Two migrant labourers working in the Magam area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district were shot at by terrorists on Friday evening. Both were immediately shifted to hospital where their condition is stated to be stable.
The injured have been identified as Mohammad Usman Malik (20) and Mohammad Sofiyan (25), and are natives of Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh. Both were working on Jal Jeevan Project at Mazahama area and were shot at and injured by the suspected terrorists.
A police official told Rising Kashmir that terrorists fired upon the two laborers in Mazahama Budgam and after the attack, they were immediately rushed to hospital, where their condition is stable. We had cordoned off the area and also launched a search operation,” he said.
“Terrorists have used pistols for the attack. Both injured have been referred to SKIMS Bemina from SDH Magam. One labourer has received a bullet injury in his arm and another in leg and both are stable,” the police official said.
This is the fifth attack by terrorists in the Kashmir Valley since the formation of an elected government headed by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
Meanwhile security has been intensified in central Kashmir. Additional companies of security forces have been deployed in nearby areas.
“Nakas (checkpoints) and checking points have been placed along Srinagar-Gulmarg highway and adjoining areas as a precautionary measure to avoid any untoward incident. Special teams have been deputed and they are on alert,” police said.
Pertinent to mention here, last week, two unidentified terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces at Khandara Top in Basantgarh, near the border of Udhampur and Kathua districts.
On October 24, two soldiers and two Army porters were killed while another porter and a soldier were injured in a terrorist attack on an Army vehicle six kilometres from the tourist hotspot Gulmarg.
On October 20, seven people, including a doctor and six migrant labourers, were killed when terrorists attacked a construction site in the Sonamarg area of Ganderbal district. The victims were part of a team working on the Z-Morh tunnel project, which links Gaganeer and Sonamarg.
On October 18, terrorists killed Ashok Chauhan, a migrant worker from Bihar, in Shopian district. His bullet-riddled body was discovered by locals in the Waduna area of Zainapora.
On 4th October a soldier from the Indian Army was found dead with gunshot wounds after being kidnapped by terrorists in Anantnag district.
The incident took place when two soldiers from the 161 unit of the Territorial Army were abducted during a joint anti-terror operation by the Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police on October 8 in a forested area of Anantnag. One soldier managed to escape despite suffering two gunshot wounds, while the other was killed.
