National Education Day: IUST hails contribution of Maulana Azad

Awantipora, Nov 14: Islamic University of Science & Technology (IUST) on Monday organized a seminar on National Education Day was at the Centre of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development wherein the contributions of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad to the education system of India were highlighted.
Speakers from different departments of the university spoke at the event. Speaking about the educational reformation in India, Dr. Showkat Hussain (senior faculty, Department of Islamic Studies, IUST) said, “As an education activist, Islamic theologian, writer, and first Educational Minster of India, Abul Kalam Azad revolutionized the education system in independent India Apart from basic education, he encouraged technical education and vocational training to all the children. The name ‘Abul Kalam Azad’ might not elicit instant name recognition with an international literary audience, but he was almost a household name on the subcontinent for the better part of the twentieth century.”
Dr. Parvez Ahmad Mir, Director CIED IUST, encouraged students to take further the mission of education laid down by Maulana Abul Kalam Azad who established many national-level educational institutions in India, including the University Grants Commission (UGC). He talked about ‘education for society’ and encouraged the students to think ‘out-of-the-box’ and develop ‘alternate paradigms’ for the development of society. “Think innovatively and educate yourself not only for employment but also for becoming entrepreneurs,” he said. 
Dr. Asifa Baba (Coordinator IPR Cell, CIED IUST) talked about the need of imparting practical knowledge to the students and spoke about the growth of Artificial Intelligence in the country.
