Baramulla, Sept 29: The authorities at Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla have introduced a dedicated ‘Female Health Clinic’ aimed at providing specialized healthcare services to women in the northern districts of Kashmir.
This pioneering move, the first of its kind in north Kashmir, is designed to address various female health issues, excluding gynecology and obstetrics.
A healthcare official told Rising Kashmir that the ‘Female Health Clinic’ will operate once a week, specifically every Wednesday, offering comprehensive care provided by a specialized team of doctors.
Dr. Ruby Reshi, the Principal of GMC Baramulla, announced the clinic’s mission to address ailments that women may not feel comfortable discussing elsewhere.
The clinic boasts a dedicated team of doctors, including a gynecologist, surgeon, and pathologist.
Dr. Reshi said that this move is part of the broader initiative to reach the grassroots level, ensuring females from the far-flung northern part of Kashmir can access the facility for various health-related issues, especially breast diseases, cervical screening, and anemia screening.
She said that in addition to its primary objectives, the clinic aligns with the ‘Anaemia Mukt Bharat’ initiative, emphasizing female health screening, particularly for anemia.
“The goal is to promptly diagnose and treat anemia, addressing its underlying causes.”
The ‘Female Health Clinic’ also addresses breast-related issues promptly, equipped with on-site Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology (FNAC) tests.
Dr. Reshi encouraged women to come forward if they suspect any breast-related problems, assuring swift and tailored treatment with the clinic’s specialized team.
Officials emphasized that this service is the first of its kind, complementing routine outpatient departments (OPDs) and effectively addressing the specific healthcare needs of female patients.
