Budgam, July 25: The people from Kanigund village of Beerwah tehsil in central Kashmir’s Budgam district demand the construction of a bridge upon the Nallah Sukhnag, saying they are facing a lot of difficulties on a daily basis.
Ghulam Ahmad Mir, a local, told Rising Kashmir that the government started the construction of the bridge for various villages upon the Nallah Sukhnag in the year 1999.
After the pillars of the bridge were constructed by the Block Development Department, Beerwah, its work was not completed after that, he said, adding, “In 2015, the people of the village spent a huge amount of money and constructed a wooden bridge upon these pillars through which we are crossing over it.”
Bashir said, “We have agricultural land from the other side of the Nallah, and the farmers from other villages also have agricultural land from our side. So, we both have to cross this unsafe wooden bridge.”
Ghulam Ahmad Shah, another local of the village, said there is also proper macadamised road connectivity from both sides of the Nallah. If the government constructs a bridge over the Nallah Sukhnag, it will connect various Beerwah villages to those of the Khag tehsil, he said.
“The wooden bridge that has been constructed by the people is in a dilapidated condition and can collapse any time,” Shah said, “It has also been declared unsafe by the village committee.”
He said the pillars of the bridge, which have been constructed upon the Nallah by the government, have been damaged due to flash floods. The government should take the necessary steps and construct the bridge; this will provide a lot of relief to the people of various villages of the Beerwah and Khag tehsils, he said.
The people of the village have requested Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Secretary Arun Kumar Mehta, and Deputy Commissioner Budgam to look into the matter.
An official from the Roads & Buildings Department said some pillars of the Kanigund bridge have been damaged due to flash floods.
He said the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the construction of the bridge upon the Nallah Sukhnag at Kanigund village has already been sent to higher officials.
