Jammu, Jan 30: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today paid solemn tributes to Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation, on his Punya Tithi. The Lieutenant Governor reflected on the timeless relevance of Gandhiji’s principles of truth and non-violence.
“The values of truth and non-violence that Gandhiji steadfastly followed transcend time and space. They are as relevant today as they were during his lifetime, guiding us towards peaceful resolutions and the well-being of every Indian,” the Lieutenant Governor stated.
Attending the Shanti Doot Sammelan, organized by the Gandhi Global Family, the Lieutenant Governor honored the families of brave army personnel and paid tribute to the leaders, freedom fighters, and martyrs who contributed to India’s independence struggle.
“The world today is witnessing widespread conflicts, with societies facing disruption due to ongoing aggression. In such times, the need for peace and non-violence is deeply felt. I am confident that Bapu’s ideals will guide humanity on the right path,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
He urged all sections of society to renew their commitment to Gandhian values and work together to empower the poor, youth, women, and farmers, contributing to the realization of the vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India).
“Pujya Bapu once said his life’s mission was to wipe away the tears of every eye. This should be our life’s motto. The welfare of the deprived must be the government’s top priority, and society must ensure that the poorest are brought into the mainstream of development,” he emphasized.
The Lieutenant Governor also commended the Gandhi Global Family J&K for its continuous efforts to promote Gandhian values and spread the message of truth, non-violence, and social harmony.
In response to a request from Padma Shri Dr. S.P. Varma, President of the Gandhi Global Family J&K, the Lieutenant Governor assured that the month-long Gandhi Jayanti celebrations will continue across Jammu & Kashmir, as in previous years. He reiterated that humanity could only achieve the goals of peace, harmony, and development by following Bapu’s ideals.
On this occasion, the Lieutenant Governor was honored with the Shanti Doot Samman by the Gandhi Global Family. Several distinguished Padma Shri Awardees, including Dr. S.P. Varma, Prof. Vishwa Murti Shastri, Dr. Jitendra Udhampuri, and Romalo Ram, as well as meritorious students and youth, were also felicitated with the Gandhi Doot Samman.
A two-minute silence was observed in honor of Mahatma Gandhi and the martyrs who made the ultimate sacrifice in the struggle for India’s freedom. A pledge was also administered to uphold and promote Gandhiji’s vision, ideals, and philosophies.
The event was attended by Atal Dulloo, Chief Secretary; Anand Jain, ADGP Jammu; Ramesh Kumar, Divisional Commissioner Jammu; retired and serving officials from Civil Administration, Police, and Security Forces; members of the Gandhi Global Family; families of martyrs and freedom fighters; and students in large numbers. Also present were Yudhvir Sethi, Member of Legislative Assembly, Jammu East; Arjun Singh Raju, Member of Legislative Assembly, Ramban; and other prominent citizens.
