Pampore, Nov 16: Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Pampore Constituency, Hasnain Masoodi said that he would seek the possibility of relocating the proposed solid waste treatment plant from the saffron-rich land situated between Patalbagh and Galander.
Speaking to the media on Saturday after visiting the proposed site near Galander along Srinagar – Jammu National Highway, Masoodi said he would engage with the competent authorities to address the concerns raised by the local residents.
The MLA observed that the proposed site for Solid waste treatment facility is being used to dump garbage in close proximity to human habitation.
He noted that the Karewa land in question is globally renowned for producing high-quality saffron, and the establishment of the facility could negatively impact saffron cultivation.
Farmers have also expressed fears about potential health risks and the difficulty of carrying out agricultural operations if the facility is built.
Masoodi assured that these concerns would be taken up with the relevant authorities, including the Revenue and Agriculture.
He said that the local residents have demanded that the facility be relocated to a site where it would have minimal impact on the environment, agriculture, and human habitation.
While the final decision rests with the competent authorities, Masoodi emphasised his commitment to conveying the farmers’ reservations and providing suggestions. He stressed the need for a decision that prioritises the interests of the farmers and the community, adding that the proximity of the facility to human habitation could adversely affect local lives and livelihoods.
