Srinagar, Jan 12: In a significant development, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Zone, Vidhi Kumar Birdi, commended the relentless efforts of the Jammu and Kashmir Police in dismantling narco-terrorism. Speaking to the media in Baramulla on Friday, IGP Birdi asserted that addressing the narcotics trade stands as a top priority on the strategic agenda of the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
He revealed a comprehensive strategy in place, incorporating robust measures and dynamic community engagement to tackle the complexities of drug-related crimes in the region. The successful operations conducted by Baramulla police were not only acknowledged for disrupting illegal drug networks but also recognized for their substantial contributions to maintaining public safety and security on a broader scale.
In an effort to bridge the gap between law enforcement and community involvement, IGP Birdi encouraged the public to actively participate in this collective endeavour. He specifically called upon individuals to report any suspicious activities or provide information related to the drug trade.
During the visit, IGP Birdi personally inspected the on-ground scenario of the Police Drug De-addiction Centre, assessing its overall functioning. Additionally, he inspected the construction work of the under-construction Police Post in Old Town Baramulla and visited Police Station Baramulla.
IGP Kashmir assured the public that the fight against drugs would persist until the complete eradication of this menace. He praised the swift action of J&K Police, especially Baramulla Police, in tackling narco-terrorism and the drug menace, emphasizing that the momentum would be sustained.
He appealed to the general public to cooperate and inform the police about any drug peddling activities in the area, underscoring the importance of saving the future of the valley’s youth.
Recognizing the severe impacts of drug abuse on individuals and communities, IGP Kashmir highlighted the importance of rehabilitating victims of drug abuse. He emphasized that the rehabilitation efforts at the Police Drug De-Addiction Centre aim not only at breaking the cycle of addiction but also at reintegrating individuals into society as productive and healthy members.
Accompanied by DIG NKR Vivek Gupta-IPS, and other notable officers, including SSP Baramulla Amod Ashok Nagpure & SP Headquarters Baramulla, the IGP Kashmir engaged in a comprehensive assessment during his visit.
Emphasizing the importance of fostering open communication within families, IGP Birdi advised parents of recovering patients to dedicate quality time to their children. He pointed out that a communication gap often contributes to behavioural issues in youngsters.
IGP Birdi also interacted with the dedicated staff members of the centre, expressing contentment with its overall functioning. He took note of any concerns raised by the staff and assured swift resolution of the issues.
Later, IGP Kashmir inspected the ongoing work of the under-construction Police Post Old Town Baramulla, emphasizing the importance of establishing a robust and modern facility that aligns with the evolving needs of law enforcement in the area. He also visited and inspected Police Station Baramulla, focusing on essential elements such as crime data, statistics, and the effectiveness of ongoing initiatives.
Highlighting the pivotal role of efficient record-keeping in the police station, IGP Kashmir underscored the importance of streamlined processes and organized documentation for the overall efficiency of law enforcement efforts. He complimented the officials and jawans for their dedication and commitment, urging them to adopt people-friendly practices while discharging their duties.
IGP Birdi urged officers to prioritize the redressal of grievances reported at the Police Station professionally, ensuring frequent interaction with the locals to strengthen the bond between the police and the public. He emphasized that such community outreach programs help in better understanding the problems faced by the people.
