Jammu, Feb 07: Jammu & Kashmir Waqf Board Chairperson Dr Darakhshan Andrabi on Tuesday said the board’s “tough” decisions are only for the collective good and for making this body a “trustworthy public institution serving our religious, spiritual places and assets associated with them”.
“We have to go a long way to come out of the effects of the rot which was nourished within the board for decades. So, we seek public support in the future too so that a complete clean up is ensured,” Andrabi said while chairing the 6th Administrative Meeting of J&K Waqf Board here.
“Tougher decisions will continue till we get hundred percent approval of our work from the same population of J&K,” she said.
During the meeting, the finances and administrative plans of the board were reviewed and many new decisions were taken for further reforms in the working system of the board.
Waqf Board members Dr Ghulam Nabi Haleem, Sohail Kazmi, Nawab Din and Syed Mohammad Hussain Haqqani, Waqf Board Chief Executive Officer Dr Syed Majid Jahangir, Tehsildar & Magistrate of the Board Ishtiyaq Mohiuddin and Administrators Mudassir Iqbal, Ashiq Hussain were present in the meeting.
“The financial approval for many new projects was granted by the board. It also approved the implementation of the National Education Policy for Waqf educational institutions. Administrative reforms for Waqf institutions were also adopted,” the Waqf Board said in a statement.
Speaking to media persons after the meeting, Dr Andrabi said the Waqf Board took “very significant futuristic decisions which will undoubtedly help us in creating a more conducive working system within the board”.
“With our earlier measures, we have succeeded in enhancing our income sources significantly and new decisions will add to this success story. Soon, Waqf Board will be a productive body that will initiate public welfare projects on a big scale. I thank the people of J&K who supported Waqf reforms and also the Waqf Board staff for their tireless services, Dr Darakhshan said.
